we already know that fujitsu is currently working on a 5 terabyte hard disk drive but if Hitachi had its way then you’ll be using a Hitachi 5TB HDD (to store all your high definition porn) before you say goodbye to the year 2010. Recently, Hitachi gave a sneak peak into their technology which will enable storage of 1TB data per square inch. Using what it calls as “current perpendicular-to-the-plane giant magneto resistance” (CPP-GMR) technique — don’t ask what it means because even we are yet to figure it out — the firm will manufacture 3.5″ hard disk with a storage capacity of 5TB. As for what can be stored on such disks, Hitachi’s Yoshihiro Shiroishi explains, “By 2010, just two disks will suffice to provide the same storage capacity as the human brain.
